Study: Folic acid reduces premature births
Summary: It has been found that women that take folic acid a least a year before their pregnancy cut their chances of very early pre-term births by 70%. The pre-term babies are subsuptable to things like cebral palsy, mental retardation, chronic lung disease, and blindness. Also it has been found it they took folic acid they cut down their chance of premature births by 50%. Folic Acid assists the body in making new cells, this is important because they need to get enough to prevent birth defects named neural tube defects. Folic Acid is found in leafy green vegetables, fruits, dried beans, peas, and nuts. Also enriched breas, cereals, and other grain products have it. You can also take it as a supplement, multivitamins are an example.
Importance: 1 in 8 babies are born prematurely in the U.S. Some of these babies don't survive or they die off because they are so weak. This change be hard for the mother and father. This article is important because it informs us about a way to prevent pre-mature births. I thought this article was very interesting, when I plan or if I plan to have a baby I will follow these instructions.
