book report!

Paretsky, Sara. Windy City Blues. New York. Delacorte Press: 1995.

Reason, Type and Setting: I chose this book because my mom selected it for me after finding out I liked mystery novels and this is one of her favorite mystery authors. This is a mystery/fiction book. This book takes place in Chicago, Illinois; it's takes place in present time.

Plot: This book is a collection of little stories, it's about a private investagator named Victoria Warshawski. The mysteries she solves very but each one are relaly interesting and it's neat seeing how smart she is and also during the book it seems you get to know her character. One story is about a guy that comes posing as her long lost cousin and she find out he's working with a lawyer that's tied into the mob to steal some very pricey musical piece she has. Another one is about a tennis player that apparently killed the dad but there are different twists and she realizes the mom kills her and almost gets kills. And there are a couple more stories, about a friend that had a gambling brother.

Character: Victoria Warshawski. She has dark brown hair and a defined face like her dad. She seems to dress comfortably and sensibly. She's loud and blunt, she doesn't sweet talk she gets to the point. She notices detail and is persistent those qualities make her the detective she is. She's nosy and keeps working even when she's exhausted. She's the main character.

Evaluation: I liked the book, but I would have wanted one long story instead of like 4 or 5 short stories. But I like dhow you expected someone but them it was actually someone else that was guilty. I think the point of the book was to entertain and keep people reading and wondering. I would recommend this book to people that like mysteries or to also check out her other books. The book is based on real life, so it contains real life situations if you're a detective or deal with crimes. I don't think this book is necessary to read I think it's just a book to read for fun. I've never been in the same situations as her, I think I'd be totally freaked out and scared.

Author, Context and Trivia: I don't really know anything about her I just know she lives in Chicago that's why my mom likes her also because my mom was born there. She's wrote 8 books and I plan to read more of them.

Reader Response
Quote and comment: "Yeah well you hired me. You didn't buy me" page 184. This was said by Victoria Warshawski to Brigitte LeBlanc. I chose this quote because I totally agree with her because sometimes people think just because they're doing something for you like paying for you or whatever that you should agree with everything they say and I completely disagree with that.
